The New (Better) Watchdog: You - Professor Explains why Social Media Scares Some

Larry Elin, Associate Professor @ Syracuse University, has written an amazing op-ed piece examining how social media has enabled the public to become better watchdogs than the traditional media - a role he believes the media has abdicated. He states that various groups fear social media because it obviates their ownership of the "choke point" in the communication channel, which translates into less control over what messages reach the public. He states "I have good reason for seeing the inherent value in social media as they begin to intersect with government, politics and the press."
