October 7, 2008 Washington D.C.STATS, a non-profit dedicated to analyzing the use and abuse of science and statistics in the media and its sister organization, the Center for Media and Public Affairs, today announced a partnership with OurBlook.com, a web 2.0 philanthropic website dedicated to cultivating the exchange of research, information and dialogue on today's national and global issues. The partnership is symbolic of the organizations’ commitment to increase online collaboration and research on a diverse range of timely issues.

"We are excited about this partnership, which will focus on projects to complement both organizations research. While analyzing data is our main mission, this partnership will give us a deeper understanding of the public's reaction to our studies," said Donald Rieck, Executive Director of STATS.

Specifically, this partnership will help OurBlook improve the site's Future of Journalism Project, which has received international mention including, most recently, in the Canadian Association of Journalist's Magazine. The project consists of over 100 interviews with industry leaders.

"The partnership with STATS and CMPA will allow us to bring the exchange of information and debate on important issues to the next level. We are eager to start working on joint projects that explore topics such as citizen journalism, objectivity in blogs and the future of journalism," said Paul Mongerson, founder of OurBlook.com

While many projects are being planned, the most important includes the creation of the University Partnership Program. The goal of the program is to empower educators with free tools and assistance to "intelligently" incorporate technology in the classroom and help train students in media literacy. A secondary goal is to provide students with better access to top leaders in diverse fields. To date, a pilot program is being run out of the University of Iowa. Ourblook.com is an online forum created for the exchange of research, information and dialogue on today's national and global issues. The goal of the site is to gather opinions from today's top leaders in the hopes of collaboratively finding tomorrow's solutions. The site uses the online "blook" format - which combines the flexibility and accessibility of the web and new social media techniques with the strengths of traditional book publishing protocols focused on documentation and shelf life.

STATS is a nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization affiliated with the George Mason University. Its mission is to improve the quality of scientific and statistical information in public discourse and to act as a resource for journalists and policy makers on scientific issues and controversies.

The Center for Media and Public Affairs
(CMPA) is a nonpartisan research and educational organization which conducts scientific studies of news and entertainment media. CMPA's goal is to provide an empirical basis for ongoing debates over media coverage and impact through well-documented, timely, and readable studies.
